Just finished the abriged audio book... They left out way to much! No Oshungahay (spelled nowhere near that but you know who I mean)... I mean this isnt as bad as Relic leaving out Pendie, but taking out the supporting character without thinking about the alternative....

I have to say, this book is high on my list of favorites from the series. Although it's hard to choose favorites, as all of them had different aspects that I found immensely enjoyable. The special ops/recon stuff in Reliquary and Brimstone will continue, for me, to be some of the greatest highlights of the series. I love the way they occasionally bring his military background into the forefront of the stories as a continually useful set of skills. I would so much love to read a book...

OK, so I totally laughed when it got to the part where Pender discharged himself from the hospital to watch them unearth the old apartment, and it describes him eating chocolates! I cracked up so much. The idea of Pendergast being a chocoholic had most certainly never occurred to me.

Anyway, just had to share my amusement on the matter.

ok, so i've read this book dozens of times. i have yet to truly understand that deal in the woods with doreen hollander.

i get what the "young men" were indulging themselves in but is there actually any connection between their activities and her capture by the surgeon? or was it just a coincidence that those boys were there? a different twist on her literary death so that it wasn't just the same-old bag over the head because you're in some dark, lonely, secluded place?

driving me nuts!!

Hi everyone! Just finished CoC. I have been trying to figure this out forever, and I have read all the Pendargast books (except SLWC - which I am reading now). Why the mention on the Child/Preston site about the red meteorite? I don't get what is so important about it. Still have to read Mount Dragon, Riptide, and the Ice Limit... is the answer in there? Somebody clue me in!!!!

Hi everybody new to this board.. hopefully i can get some answers from all of you terrefic people.

1) I need a symbol for the book Cabinet of Curiosities.. and how it is related to the book and the characters.

2) I need one character who has changed throughout the book and how they have changed. I also need to know why you think the author put those changes in the book.

3) If you know about allegory.. i need to know what some of the main characters...

Has anyone else seen the program on tv regarding the Schinasi mansion? It is adjacent to Riverside Drive in NYC and even has a secret tunnel that goes out to the river. I asked P & C about it and they said that they did not base the beloved Pendergast abode on it, but were intrigued. It just blew my mind - I can't remember what program it was on now, I think one of those where they are showing outlandish real estate. To me, it reeked of Uncle Enoch.

The first Lincoln-Child book that I read was Brimstone, so naturally, I read DoD and BotD afterwards, and I was [i]so[/i] confused about the whole Constance thing, but now that I'm reading CoC, everything makes so much more sense, now! I'm barely even halfway through and already all of my questions regarding that have been answered... XD I read the "trilogy" first, then Still Life, now Cabinet... I'm pretty much going backwards...

Sorry if this has been brought up before or was in the no turning back part of the eyes section of the story webpage but I just finished reading CoC (I know, shame on me but I happened to start with Brimstone) but did I miss it somewhere exactly how Pendergast came across Constance? I remember reading about the eyes again in SLWC and was wondering if she was following him or something. But yeah, since I read Brimstone then the rest of the Diognes trilogy first I was wondering what Pendergast...

Reading CoC for a forensics class

As a college student, I'm required to take a lab science, and I am taking a criminology class. CSI, Forensics, whatever you wanna call it.

We're to read a book (novel) or watch a movie and analyze the crime scenes about what forensics were used, what forensics weren't used, and what forensics were possibly used wrong.

So far, for CoC, crime scenes I've got
-The 36 in the basement of the demolished building
-Poor Doreen Hollander
-The other girl from BFE walking back to...

I just finished CoC on my wifes recomendation. (didnt think Id like it, but was actually very good)

But wanted to know if anyone can recommed the next book to read by P/C. I know ive already started out of order, and I already have brimstone, and I think the relic at home, but does it make a big dif which ones I read 1st?

Novel about Enoch Leng

Why not? The Pendergast bloodline has a good storytelling foundation now, how about a book about Enoch Leng Pendergast? I was always a bit dissapointed he wasn't in CoC.

Due to disability I read everything as audiobooks.I only mention this as background.

CoC,unabridged,is very difficult to purchase.
I recently noticed a new edition on CD for less than $30 at Ebay.Mostly I've seen used editions going for about $100.

This $30 price has held steady for some time,so an interested party may be able to steal this auction.I already have an unabridged copy,or I'd be mum and bidding myself. ;-)

Hi folks,

I've been re-reading CoC, and I was wondering if it is written anywhere in the book who exactly put Brisbane's name-plate on the exhibit of the swinging ape?

At the moment when everyone was looking at the plaque and laughing, Pendergast is studiously examining another display on the other side of the room.

Is this an indication that he's the one who put the name-plate there?

It just seems like such a childish (but funny) thing for him to do.

Feel like a major idiot, I do. I've been re-reading CoC, and can't believe I missed the whole Leng connection to Pendergast.

If you go back and re-read the section where Clara McFadden is describing Leng :"Leng had blond hair, blue eyes, an aquiline nose. Old-fashioned black coat, formally dressed." Several times, he's described as a polymath, very intelligent and wealthy.

Hmmm. Maybe I was distracted by the description of his voice sounding like "two people...

Hardcover vs paperback?

I've just finished the hardcover version of CoC, and now learn there was an added paragraph in the paperback to foretell a future event (Brimstone was actually the first Pendergast novel i read, so i already know what the secret is). Nonetheless, could someone possibly type the paragraph here so I can see what i missed??

Also, im about to start on the hardcover version of Still Life w Crows. Are there any other surprise additions that can only be found in the paperback...
