Yeah, Margo has a way of holding her own--she doesn't have to be rescued each time she appears, like a certain Viola...

Good point, Penguin. Heck, I think if Nora can support her own book, Margo can. Although I *always* want Pendergast to be in *all* the books. But I guess he
can't be everywhere at once, can he? Unless Dio... well, nevermind, I choose not to go there. Besides, Dio thinks he's tough, but Pendergast will
always win.

Great ideas all... Dini, Fantas you guys are dead on... I Totally forgot about Glinn.... I would love to see him back... He and Pendergast had a very
interesting working dynamic that I liked...
"You see every drink of liquor you take kills a thousand brain cells. Now that doesn't much
matter 'cos we got billions more. And first the sadness cells die so you smile real big. And then the quiet cells go so you just say everything real loud
for no reason at all. That'ok, that's ok because the stupid cells go next, so everything you say is real smart. And finally, come the memory cells.
These are tough sons of bitches to kill."
Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut. ~Ernest Hemingway |

****THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM BRIMSTONE, SLWC, CABINET, CEMETERY DANCE, AND MAYBE OTHERS--PROCEED WITH CAUTON!****
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I'll be honest, I would love to see them do a Pendergast book that's about a completely sociopathic serial killer, with no other weird motive related issues. Just someone who kills and keeps killing because they like to kill kind of thing. I think they got close with SLWC, and I think that's why it seems to stand out in the crowd as one of my favorites. Cabinet as well, although the family ties in that book kinda make it less serial killerish and more Pendergast family treeish. But I want to see Pendergast get stumped by a killer that has no good reason or motive to kill. A lot of the people he does catch (prepare for spoilers from various books) seem to have a distinct motive behind the killings. In Brimstone it was that whole thing with the violin, and basically selfish greed and a sense of entitlement. In CD it was that greedy dude who wanted money. In Relic and Reliquary it was monsters, in SLWC it might as well have been a monster, in WOD it was "magic", and in the Dio trilogy it was Dio. The closest honest to goodness serial killer they had was Fairhaven--he was pretty into killing, but he did still have his reasons, even if he enjoyed his work a little too much. I just think it was so interesting in SLWC to watch Pendergast try to piece together a motive behind the killings, and just being so stumped over the whole thing. I think that may have been one of his most challenging cases in terms of the mystery of it. In Relic it almost had to be a monster with the way people died, and in Reliquary the similarities pointed to a similar problem--he has always had something intangible to go on like that. In SLWC he had nothing. Until he started thinking about that tea. I think what I want is another tea water moment! LOL! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

D'Agosta having a heart attack is one of the most depressing ideas pertaining to a fictional character I've ever read.
I'm wondering if Corrie will come back--I like her and I want to see more of her. I'm also wondering if they'll explain away Viola and her sudden disappearance from Pendergast's life somehow. "She choked on an olive pit and died. Very sad." I haven't gotten to read "Cemetery Dance" yet, but I am wondering about Nora and Margo's relationship--they got to be such good friends, and...okay, you know what, I hope they hook up. I have also heard there are zombies and that Smithback dies, so I'm wondering how long it will take him to become a zombie. I know this will happen. |

I don't wonder about Nora in that way, I think she likes her men. =P Margo, I have wondered simply because there hasn't been anything on the subject in
any of the books. Mostly I think she has a thing for Pendergast and sorta pines away for him, so between that and being so busy, she has just never pursued any
other avenues. But as far as the writing is concerned, the authors could do anything they want with her at this point without it being a stretch. I don't
think she's even thought about dating in college in the books. I think it's a blank slate with her.
But again, I think it has more to do with wanting Pendergast than being busy. Even though the writers refuse to move in that direction. (I choose denial, lol.) I also wonder whether any of D'Agosta's old family will come into the book. He does have a son somewhere, and an ex. The ex I am less interested in. I'd sorta like to see the son follow in his footsteps, I think that would be cool--the dynamic could be really great.

I've thought about D'Agosta's son and Corrie crossing paths. I'm not sure what would happen, but it would sure be interesting. You know, the
rise of the next generation of ill-adjusted characters and all that.
>>"She choked on an olive pit and died. Very sad."<< HAHAHAHA!!! I think somewhere around here we had a forum dedicated to ways Viola might die...it got pretty interesting and creative, as I recall. I think it was a little before the release of Wheel of Darkness.

Yeah, that's right! And also, she's been having to recuperate from... SPOILERS... almost being killed... TWICE. Pendergast needs to suck it up and visit her and try to explain about his brother and beg her forgiveness. And we need to read about it, not be told about it after the fact. Someday... >>"She choked on an olive pit and died. Very sad."<< >HAHAHAHA!!! Indeed, there was a lively discussion on ways to get rid of Viola...

I got the feeling that they were pushing D'Agosta's family out of the way as much as possible in the last few books--his status as a normal family man
was important when he was still just Vincent D'Agosta, New York cop, because it was another way to contrast him with Pendergast, who doesn't have
anything like a normal family life at all. Now that he's been drawn into Pendergast's life a lot more and is his BFF and default sidekick, things are a
little different.
I honestly don't remember much of what happened to Margo after she got nearly killed. I just think her and Nora would make a good team of some sort, I don't know...Preston and Child have some fairly kick-%%@ female characters, and they should all hang out together more. |

I would like to see some interaction between Pendergast and Margo. That's what I want.
Yes, Nora and Margo too, for sure - they could become good friends -- based on a CD reference, it seems like they have.

I think it'd be great to have some one-on-one action with Pendergast and Margo. They were awesome together in Relic, but it was a short-lived portion of
the book--for the most part they never interacted at all. Corrie, D'Agosta and Nora have all had their turn to be the main costar to Pendergast. I would
love a one-on-one book with Margo and Pendergast. Especially the way it was set up between Corrie and Pendergast. Something that remote and secluded, where the
entire book has Pendie alone, Margo alone, and mostly the two together.

Oh yeah, that sounds perfect to me! Pendergast and Margo, all alone...
Even if there is a trilogy coming, they could work it in somehow. At least for part of a book. A good half a book, at least. That would make it only one-sixth of the trilogy! Not to much to ask, eh?

I know I'm getting more into "what do you hope" as opposed to "what do you wonder" but to continue on that note...
I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- I want to see Pendergast on a motorcycle. Tearing down the road, suit and all. For a good reason, not just because he feels like it, of course! All in the pursuit of the case.

They really need a motorcycle chase scene or something. Oh man, that would rock. I would also love to see Pendergast chase someone on foot for a good long
time. Everyone does car chase scenes in books and movies, but a good, clever foot chase would be pretty sweet. Can't think of a time he's ever done
that off the top of my head.

You're right! A foot chase would be awesome, even more so than a motorcycle one (which admittedly would be tricky to pull of without it being a little
cheesy - but I have faith they could). Foot chase! That's it.

Slight change of subject, and a CD spoiler below.
. . . . At one point in the book, Pendergast was leaning against a lamp post (when they were watching the protest at The Ville). You see him do this kind of thing, but he never gets any dirt or grime on that suit. How does he do it? I think it'd be funny if they incorporated something about that into one of the books. Either describe him examining the light post before leaning against it, or maybe someone sees him do it and just asks him how he never gets dirty or something. Anyway. Oh, the other thing that made me laugh was him wading into the middle of the river in his suit, when he flags down the boat. The idea of him on that boat ride all the way to the house in soggy suit pants... can't have been comfortable... I wonder if he took the time to find a towel while he was on the boat, or if he went with the drip dry method. =P

I loved that scene! This is better for the CD forum, but I thought it was surprising when he actually shot his gun to get them to cooperate. I love badass
Pendergast. Need more of that, please.

Badass Pendie is my favorite. Like the infamous scene in Relic we're always bringing up, with the out of character y'all and so forth...
Okay, leaving the subject alone now, but I do like the idea of expanding on the "how to's" of keeping clean and perfect in a black suit. I seriously wonder, because I wear almost nothing but black, and I get lint and all sorts of garbage all over my clothes all the time without eve realizing it. It's hard to keep black or white 100% blemish free. But he's always immaculate. And yeah, of course a big part of that is that it's fiction, but it would still be cool if they threw a bit of detail on so we could observe his habits in that regard.
